Würzburg, Bavaria, Germany
The Würzburg Residenz (Residence) was designed by several of the leading Baroque architects. The palace was projected by Balthasar Neumann in order of Prince-Bishop of Wurzburg Johann Philipp Franz von Schonborn and his brother Friedrich Carl in 1720 and was completed in 1744. It was heavily damaged in World War II, and restoration has been in progress since 1945. Since 1981 a palace and a garden have been a UNESCO WHS.
